Botox® Injections in Caledonia, MI

As the skin ages, wrinkles and lines become more inevitable. Loss of collagen can cause skin to be less elastic which makes it more likely that creases next to your eyes, between your eyebrows or on your forehead will become permanent.

While taking care of your skin with quality skin care products such as moisturizers, cleansers, toners, and sunscreen is important for the health of your skin, even the best products can’t erase lines that are already there. Botox® is a treatment that can help address these lines and wrinkles and make your skin look more smooth.

At Proper Eu Medical & Aesthetics Center in Caledonia, MI, we offer Botox as a way to help you feel more confident, regardless of your age.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a neuromodulator that has been used for many years to help treat dynamic lines and wrinkles. It is still one of the most commonly used and widely trusted products on the market because of its reliability.

Botox contains a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A. This is a protein that is taken from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. While not toxic to your system, it produces a local muscle relaxing effect.

As a neuromodulator, Botox blocks signals that are sent from your nerves to the injected muscles. As a result, these certain muscles will remain motionless even as you make your normal expressions. The skin in these treatment areas can remain flat and smooth while still allowing you to retain your natural expressions.

Botox is commonly used cosmetically for lines and wrinkles, but it can also be used to relax muscles and block signals for therapeutic reasons.

What Does Botox Treat?

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines are one of three areas that are FDA approved to be treated by Botox Cosmetic. Injections are placed at several points on the forehead to help relax the muscles that cause horizontal lines.

Crow’s Feet

When you smile or squint your eyes, it can cause creases to form at the corners of your eyes. As your skin loses its elasticity, these can become more pronounced. Botox is FDA approved for use on crow’s feet.

Frown Lines

The third area that is approved for cosmetic use of Botox is the area between the eyebrows called the glabellar lines or frown lines. By treating this area with Botox, we can temporarily reduce the appearance of these lines.

TMJ Disorder

In addition to cosmetic uses, Botox can also be used in other capacities. For some patients, TMJ disorder, or pain in the temporomandibular joint can be effectively treated using Botox. When injected into certain areas of the jaw muscles, Botox can block signals, relax the muscles, and help reduce pain.

Migraines

Botox is approved for use in chronic migraine headaches. During treatment, Botox is injected at specific locations on the head, neck, and shoulders. By blocking certain transmissions, it may help to reduce the migraine pain that is experienced by certain individuals.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating because of overactive sweat glands. Botox injections can block the signals that tell the sweat glands to produce sweat. For some patients, this treatment can provide effective results for several months.

Benefits of Botox Treatments

Non-Invasive

With Botox treatments, you won’t have to worry about having any incisions and no anesthetic is required for the treatment unless you request topical numbing cream. A very small needle is used to give injections making discomfort minimal during treatments.

Lunchtime Procedure

In addition to being non-invasive, Botox injections are also fast. While treatment time can depend on how many areas you are having treated, most people find that they can fit their treatment into a lunch break or a similar block of time.

No Downtime

Once you are done with your treatment, you won’t have to worry about any downtime. You can feel free to return to almost all of your normal activities. Your doctor may give you some specific instructions regarding anything that you should avoid post-treatment such as heavy exercise or facial massage.

How Long Does Botox Take to Work?

There will be a short period of time in between your injections and when you start to see results. You may begin seeing improvement in your fine lines and wrinkles 5 days to one week after your treatment. These initial results continue to improve over the next few weeks. By one month after your injections, you should be able to see your full results.

How Long Does Botox Last?

The duration of Botox results can be different for each patient. It can depend on the dosage that was administered, the treatment area, your individual metabolism, and how often you receive Botox treatments. Botox tends to have a cumulative effect and may have longer effects on patients who come in for regular treatments. However, during trials, patients experienced improvement in wrinkles for 3 to 4 months after treatments.
